As you all have witnessed from time to time that HLA teaching methods incorporate 5 Cs of World Readiness Standards. Besides the Communication ; Culture and Community plays a very important role in maintaining learners interest level in the target language for a life long learning.
Recently we celebrated the Holi event and our students learnt so much about this rich festival. In the same way we wanted kids to know about another major festival of India “EID” which is a beautiful festival, rich in cultural aspects and teaches us many core values of life like being grateful for food, importance of fasting, importance of family , importance of giving back to society and a joyful celebration of all the good things in life.
As a language goal kids learnt how to wish each other in EID by saying “Eid Mubarak”. They also learnt how to greet someone saying “ Adaab” and “ Assalam walekum”. It also reinforced habitual present tense sentences like … Eid me.n …. karte hai.n, Eid me.n …. khaate hain. Eid me.n roza rakhte hai.n. … and so on. They have been introduced to very specific vocabulary related to EID. Culturally they learnt all the special traditions and rituals of EID through our guest speaker presentation and conversation. Kids had so many questions:)
Special thanks goes to our PTO member and parent volunteer Rubina ji for just not only giving her precious time and sharing EID special presentation in all three of our classes – Kaaveri, Godaavari and Himaalay but also giving kids a glimpse of how actually EID is celebrated through her attire and personal pictures and memories. It’s our responsibility to teach our kids all the various aspects of India and its rich heritage.
