Language and culture are an integral part of each other in the study of any language; one cannot be taught without the other. That is why, one of the main components of HLA initiative is to provide a rich cultural experience to our learners, besides teaching Hindi language. Keeping this important aspect in mind we celebrated the festivals of Navratri & Diwali during the month of October and November. Besides these, children also enjoyed dressing up for Halloween, and took part in fun games & craft activities. Additionally, our little ones also enjoyed a little bit of Christmas fun in and learned how Christmas in celebrated in India. They learned some Christmas specific vocabulary in Hindi, popular Jingle bells songs in Hindi and did some arts and craft activities. Over all, there were loads of festivities in last 2-3 month.
Our amazing HLA-PTO parents worked together with our teachers, and we were able to celebrate and enjoy our rich culture and heritage in the most engaging and colorful way even in an online set up!! We dressed up, we danced, we played games, we did age-appropriate arts and craft activities, we made mithai together, we learned some popular folk arts of India – Warli and Madhubani, and last but not the least, our enthusiastic kids gave a spectacular showcase of their talent! It felt like an online concert with a variety of entertainment programs! We are very thankful to our wonderful class parents Rubina ji, Surbhi ji, Garima ji, Nitika ji, Deepika ji & Shamlee ji. Special mention to Rubina ji for coordinating everything from every single class activity for each class to a ‘USA waali Diwali’ special video that we published last month. We are also grateful to 2 local artists from our community- Silpashree Bariki and Navya Prasad for giving engaging workshops on Warli and Madhubani folk arts.
We are also very grateful to our amazing team of teachers Manju ji, Mamta ji, Nimisha ji, Avani ji, Neetu ji, Madhvi ji, Parinitha ji, Preeti ji & Soma ji for wonderfully balancing the language and cultural aspect in all the lesson plans and interactive activities.
HLA is looking forward to serve all of you in our best possible capacity year after year!! With great pleasure we serve three different age groups- elementary, middle school and high school, 8 different classes over the week and a special ‘Seal of Biliteracy class’ for the benefit of our high schoolers.
We strongly believe that ‘We are stronger together!!’, so let’s work as a larger family in connecting our younger generation with India’s rich heritage and culture through Hindi language, in a supportive and encouraging way for the benefit of each and every child!!
